SITUATION:
A prestigious private University in the heart of Washington, DC, Georgetown
had limited video & audio production resources of its own, resulting
in regular cost outlays for sound and video systems for events. Recognizing
an opportunity to reduce costs, Georgetown decided to undertake an
overhaul of its existing infrastructure in the historic Riggs Library
and President's Hall.
APPROACH:
QRS conducted an in-depth assessment of Georgetown's existing on-site
resources including interviews with faculty and staff. The resulting
Business Requirements Document (BRD) provided Georgetown with a detailed
outline of their needs versus their capacity, and a series of specific
recommendations and options for designs and equipment to bridge the
gap. All recommendations and options included budget, personnel and
timeline estimates. The BRD, provided the University with the critical
information to make resource allocation decisions with a complete
understanding of the short and long-term effects and benefits for
their organization.
RESULT:
With the University's requirements to preserve the historical integrity
of the spaces involved, QRS designed a sound system for the Riggs
Library and Presidents' Hall with sound reinforcement, record and
playback capability that blends with the aesthetics of the room. QRS
designed and equipped a user-friendly and portable control system
and trained University staff to operate the system. The University
can now service it's own production needs in these spaces providing
vastly increased flexibility, and ongoing cost savings.
